Books, Movies, Music that I recommend

Books worth reading
The Complete Calvin and Hobbes by Will Watterson. - The best comic strip I've ever read, plus the only one I actually own a copy of. A mischievious and imaginative boy and his stuffed tiger having fun and causing trouble; sounds like fun! Hilarious.

Elizabeth Chase Mysteries by Martha C. Lawrence - Female psychic Private Eye on the loose.

Kay Scarpetta Novels by Patricia Cornwell - Female coroner solving crimes; very exciting, very descriptive.

Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince (and all of the other Harry Potter books) by J. K. Rowling (as everybody on the planet already knows) What can I say about it that hasn't been said before? Before I read it, I wondered what all the fuss was about. Then I actually read it myself. Now of course, I love all of the books, and movies!! My favorite book is the fourth, Goblet of Fire.

Tong Sing - The Chinese Book of Wisdom Based on the ancient Chinese Almanac. Includes sections on Chinese culture, wisdom, horoscopes, health and medicine, and Chinese way of life. Discovered this book at the House of Kung Fu where my son takes lessons. Very enlighting.

Where Did All the Dragons Go? by Fay Robinson, Illustrated by Victor Lee. This was my Xmas gift from my son Jordan a couple years ago, and my favorite present of all (though I love ALL my presents). Beautiful picture book, telling what happened when all the dragons left. Click on picture at left to see a couple of pages from this magical book. Thanks again, Jordan!
Nova's Ark written and illustrated by David Kirk. I saw this book at the bookfair at my son's school, and couldn't resist it. I actually bought if for myself! About a robot boy in the future, who likes to create robot pets. He waits with his robot mom, Luna, for his dad to return from a crystal mining mission and dreams of flying to the stars. The adventure starts on a class trip to Axion a great Space Center. The graphics in this book are fantastic! And the story begs to be made into a movie; or at least to be read by every child and adult who loves space and robots.

The Bad Girl's Guide to the Open road by Cameron Tuttle. You would be amazed at what you can cook using your car... Some intriguing ideas for fun on the road.

I am an avid science fiction reader. Some sci-fi books I would strongly recommend:

Stainless Steel Rat Series by: Harry Harrison. Adventures of Jim DiGriz. I love that you get into the action almost immediately in each book, and they are very entertaining without being extremely violent or disgusting. Ingenious inventions, space travel, just a little romance, the works. Great for teens and up! About the Series

Computer One, by: Warwick Collins

Einstein's Bridge by John Cramer. Hard science fiction about high tech, high energy physics. Quite a surprise.

Sam Gunn Unlimited, by Ben Bova. ANY of the 20-30 books by Bova I would recommend. He's one of the best hard science-fiction writers around! Click on his book to go to my Ben Bova Page.

All of Jack McDevitt's books: Polaris, Omega, Moonfall, Eternity Road, Infinity Beach, Ancient Shores, The Engines of God, Deepsix, Chindi.

Starbridge Series by many authors; favorite ones are by A.C. Crispin.

The entire Dragons of Pern series, by Anne McCaffrey. The best site to go to for information about this fantasy/science fiction series I think is: http://pern.srellim.org/intro.htm If you would also like to see some beautiful art and the covers of the Pern books, click on the picture to your left. One of her more recent which I just finished reading, The Skies of Pern was awesome! I was so glad when my name finally came up on the hold list at the library. I don't want to give away any secrets, so if you're in to Pern, you have to read it and find out the new dragon skill, and a new threat to Pern. That's all I going to say! Just read. And when you finally get to the end, you know there's going to be another Pern book. Still unanswered questions, and plots that beg to be continued. I wish Anne McCaffrey and her son, Todd, long and healthy lives!
My other passion is mysteries.

One Mystery book series that I'm addicted to, is the Madcap Maggody Series, by Joan Hess. They're about Arly Hanks, female small-town police chief and the other wacky residents of Maggody, Arkansas, and all the crazy adventures they get mixed up in. If you're looking for a good laugh, then read these; preferably in order.

Evan Marshall writes a great mystery series about Jane Stuart, literary agent and her cat, Winky. The first book is entitled Missing Marlene, and the latest is Crushing Crystal. Great characters, lots of gossip, lots of drama, taking place in the town of Shady Hills. These are the can't-put-it-down type. I've actually read two of them, all the way through, one night each, because I couldn't sleep, and I didn't want to stop reading!
Where the Heart Is, by Billie Letts is soooo good! Grabbed my interest immediately, when I started reading it. Its about a pregnant, 17 year old girl, Novalee Nation, who gets ditched by her jerk of a boyfriend, at a Walmart, in some small town, on a road trip. She ends up living in Walmart at night for awhile, & has her baby there! And all kinds of amazing other things happen. It was made into a movie, but I really wasnt impressed with it at all. Just read the book, it's much better.

The Metaphysical Handbook, by: David and Lucy Pond
If you've already checked out my Horoscopes page, and figured out your Destiny Number, then you would recognize the authors' names. Their book is where I got most of that information. Also in their book, they go in depth into Astrology, Tarot, I Ching, more Numerology, Palmistry, and Applied Metaphysics. I love this book, because is so personal, and concepts are explained so clearly.

My
all time favorite Sci-fi movie (besides Star Wars, the first one) is The Fifth Element. Bruce Willis is perfect for his part, and the special effects were awesome. The humor was delicious, especially regarding the character LeeLoo, and I loved all the action. One thing that I thought was so cool in it, was the huge spaceship, which was actually a resort hotel, that people boarded to cruise through space, to another planet. Mmmmm, how I would loooove to vacation there for a couple weeks!

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, The Chamber of Secrets, Prisoner of Azkaban and Goblet of Fire. Wonderful! Magical! Love the Quidditch, and all of the characters. And the castle. Can't wait for the next one!

Pirates of the Carribean was so good! It was exciting, dramatic, and pretty funny, actually. Johnny Depp was awesome as the pirate. Orlando Bloom was dashing and all that, but Johnny's character was just so appealing, plus his cheekbones remind me of Jorge, and I think I've always kinda liked pirates - but not their teeth.
For those with a warped sense of humor who love to laugh their asses off (like me), check out these films: Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, and Super Troopers.

Not Without My Daughter (1991) has been one of my favorite movies since the first time I saw it in the theater ten years ago. It's a movie about the true story of Betty Mahmoody who's husband took his wife and daughter in 1984, to meet his family in Iran. He swore they would be safe. They would be happy. They would be free to leave. He lied. This is about an American woman, trapped in Islamic Iran by her brutish husband, who must find a way to escape with her daughter as well. Main character is played by Sally Field, who gives a powerful performance in this thrilling and dramatic movie. Even now when I see it on T.V., it's make me cry, and makes me angry to think about this still happening in countries like Iran and Iraq every day.

Titan A.E. and Atlantis - two great animated sci-fi movies that I love.

Favorite Movie actors and actresses:
Harrison Ford, Bruce Willis, Nicolas Cage, Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp, Russell Crowe, Laurence Fishburne, Chris Tucker, Jet Li, Jackie Chan, Tom Hanks, Tommy Lee Jones, Wesley Snipes, Kurt Russell, Owen Wilson, Will Smith
Sandra Bullock, Milla Jovovich, Geena Davis, Whoopi Goldberg, Goldie Hawn, Jodie Foster, Angelina Jolie, Ashley Judd, Melissa Gilbert, Demi Moore

This the first time I've added contestants from American Idol to this page. Chris Daughtry is the real thing - he's got the voice, the look, the drive, the passion. Listen to the song Conviction he sang with the band Absent Element. You may also right click to save first. Apparently he's married, and a dad, which is cool. He's also a great artist; some drawings of his are on his previous band's site. He's extremely hot; - and is going to be fighting off the women left and right. Two new songs: Home, What I Want

Taylor Hicks a.k.a. 'Grey Charles' due to his prematurely grey hair and the fact that he's full of soul like Ray Charles (rest in peace). He's from Alabama, and has entertained with James Brown, Tom Petty, Jackson Browne and Keb Mo. He's the most original performer I've seen yet on Idol, who can actually sing! He makes me smile just thinking about his performing. Listen to his song Soul Thing or right click to save it first.

Gwen Stefani

Loona and DJ Sammy (who are married by the way) - Discovered them this past year, and realized that I LOVE trance/techno music! Sure hope someday I'll be able to travel to Spain to see them perform live. Click on their names to take you to their sites, which plays their music for you.

Shania Twain - All of her songs are so fun to sing to - I really love her style.

Enya - She has such a beautiful, haunting voice. My favorite songs are Book of Days (Song from beautiful movie "Far and Away"), Ebudae, and Boadicea. For translations of Enya's song lyrics that are not in English, click here.

Lenny Kravitz - MmmmmMmmmMmmmm...he is scrumptious, isn't he? Such soul, passion, what an edge. God, that song Again no doubt brings back memories for so many others besides me every time we hear it.

**Santana!!! Got their Supernatural CD. Oooooo...I love it! All the songs are great, but my favs are Maria Maria, Put Your Lights On, and Migra. Oh, and Smooth is on this album too, with Rob Thomas.

When I first saw a video by Cristina Agulaira I thought oh, here's another pop queen like Brittney Spears. But now I know she's definitely not like Brittney - she's ten times better. She actually has a beautiful voice, and of course a body that I envy greatly. :) Her song and video with Ricky Martin is very good - Nobody Wants To Be Lonely.

Just discovered the A-Teens. they sing all the great ABBA hits, and I know all those songs by heart, bc I used to listen to them all the time, years ago!

I still do love those Backstreet Boys. First album has some great dance songs; also like the songs That Way, and Don't Want You Back.

Savage Garden, has made some great dance tunes, and their lyrics are so descriptive.
Enrique Iglesias also sings so very romantico! His song Bailamos is my favorite. Hero is also great.
