Rules in Society If you click on this link, a new window will open, (which you can hide and then close when you're done) to a JW site page that briefly talks about JW's 'Role in Society'. If you carefully read this page, you will notice the following: 1. While JW's do not "physically separate themselves from those who do not share their beliefs," they are only supposed to "enjoy cordial relationships with them." What does this mean? You are only allowed to be friends with those of your own faith. What words come to mind? close-minded, self-righteous, judgemental, and boring. 2. JW's "avoid being excessive in the pursuit of wealth, pleasure, or prominence." Which means, we should feel guilty about wanting the good things in life and wanting to be rich, famous, or sexually fulfilled. And as far as wealth is concerned, I hear the word "hypocrasy"......You will find that in many congregations, it is the wealthier witnesses who are appointed elders, and ministerial servants. From my experience in the congregations I've been in, the wealthy witnesses are no different than anybody else who is used to the finer things. They do not socialize with poorer people, and tend to think they are the center of the universe. Is this the love of fellow man Jesus was referring to? 3. JW's "do not share in the politics or wars of any nation." While I tend to agree with a stand of non-violence, because I hate war, I think it is horseshit when they talk about staying politically neutral. This means: no voting, don't assertively state your opinion about any of the political issues talked about in the media, or anywhere, basically. This also means, not singing patriotic songs, not even teaching them to their children. The flag is considered an idol - not to be "worshiped" (saluted) or even owned! I have come to the decision that if I'm going to live in this society and live the best life I can for me and my son, then I had better get involved in what's going on around me. The beauty of this country is, that we are free to do that or not. And why are we free? Because of the men who have sacrificed themselves in wars throughout history, fighting for our freedom. Whether we are planning on joining the miilitary or living a pacifist's life, we should at least pay our respects to those who fought and are currently fighting to make our life as easy as it is today! |
